Some of the 100 or so guests at The Great Swiss Garden Picnic and Walk held at the Shuttelworth Collection

A slice of Swiss hospitality arrives in a stunning rural Bedfordshire garden

Wednesday 26 June 2019

Around 100 guests attended 'The Great Swiss Picnic & Walk' held in the splendid setting of The Swiss Gardens at the Shuttleworth Collection in Old Warden Park on Wednesday, courtesy of Ramblers Walking Holidays, Adagio, Switzerland Tourism and Ticino Turismo.

The event was held to help promote the Lemsford-based holiday companies links with the Italian-speaking Ticino region in the eastern part of Switzerland which boasts several towering Alpine peaks, medieval cities like Bellinzona and Lugano and the famous lake of the same name.

The Swiss Garden, located adjacent to the grass-stripped aerodrome which houses the rare Shuttleworth collection of working vintage aircraft and automobiles, is an outstanding example of the Regency fashion and was the perfect setting for a Swiss-themed picnic lunch thanks to its picturesque alpine styling.

The gardens offer visitors a peaceful, tranquil space with new vistas revealed at every twist and turn while it also features 13 listed structures, an adjacent woodland sculpture trail plus a resident peacock which, instead of that familiar screeching call, actually sounds far more like a braying donkey!
