And right on queue later this month see the relaunch of one of Cornwall's finest hotels. Hotel Meudon is opening under new ownership to offer an upscale, sophisticated and elegant bolthole, with first-rate service and hospitality to rival the best in the South West.

Hidden along a quiet country lane at Mawnan Smith, a small hamlet situated between Falmouth and the Helford, Hotel Meudon is the only hotel set in Cornish subtropical gardens and boasts direct access to a private beach at Bream Cove.

The hotel was owned and operated by the Pilgrim family from the 1960s until its sale to Kingfisher Resorts in December 2020. It has undergone a sensitive, extensive and imaginative refurbishment, the hote and now the restaurant and gardens is set to reopen on 17 May, subject to Government guidelines.

The hotel's location – just off the South West Coast Path – glorious gardens and stunning setting, coupled with flexible, all day dining and decadent afternoon teas, will ensure it appeals to locals and visitors alike.

Guests won't have to stray far from the hotel to enjoy wild swimming, snorkelling, kayaking and hiking from secluded Bream Cove, or boating and sailing on the Helford River. Or to explore nearby Trebah and Glendurgan gardens.  Rooms cost from £119 per night on a bed and breakfast basis (based on two people sharing in low season).
